Why bathtubs can be a huge upgrade for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury
- by admin
The Detroit Red Wings’ goalie Marc Andre Fleury is going to get some upgrades in the coming years, as the team is expected to take the opportunity to add a top-end starter.
The Red Wings are expected to bring back a goaltender in the trade market, as they did for a top goalie, but the team will have to look for a veteran starter to fill in.
The team could look to bring in a goaltender for a few different reasons.
One could be to bring down the price of a veteran goalie, while the other could be for a team to acquire a veteran backup.
Here are the most likely candidates to fill out the Red Wings top goaltending options, and how the team could acquire them.
Brian ElliottBrian Elliott will be the Red Wing’s starting goalie for the upcoming season, and that means it will be hard to find a replacement for the veteran starter.
Elliott is only 31 years old and has had some great seasons.
He has a career .906 save percentage and 3.35 goals against average, but his best years came as a 26-year-old in 2015-16.
He only made 29 starts in his career, but he had a career high of 25 games in 2016-17.
He will be in his fourth NHL season, which means he is nearing his prime and is nearing a point in his development where he is considered a good enough goalie to get the job done.
Henrik LundqvistHenrik Lundquist was traded to the New York Rangers earlier this season, but it will still be a big step for the Red Sox.
He was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, but left Boston in free agency last summer.
Lundquist had a solid rookie campaign with the Rangers, and is a good goalie who is very mobile.
He is known for his work ethic and willingness to sacrifice for the team.
Lundqvists salary is believed to be around $4 million a year, but teams like the Penguins, Red Wings and New York Islanders are all rumored to be interested in signing him.
He could be the answer for the Boston Red Sox this season.
Ryan MillerRyan Miller will be playing in the AHL for the Detroit Red Sox next season, after being traded to Pittsburgh in the Kevin Hayes trade.
Miller was acquired by the Red Devils from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Zach Bogosian in March, and the two teams have been trading.
Miller had a great season for the Blue Jackets last year, and he is a solid NHL goaltender.
He played a lot of games in Columbus this season and had a good regular season, going 1-2-1 with a .929 save percentage.
He had one shutout in 12 games last year.
Miller will not be a cheap goalie to acquire, but a team like the Pittsburgh Penguins could be interested.
Mike CondonMike Condon, who is playing for the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL Entry Hockey League, is also a veteran who has had a lot more success than Miller.
Condon was traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Canadiens in 2017, and his NHL career has been a little bit longer.
He spent five seasons with the Senators, including a stint in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2016.
Cournons career is somewhat similar to Miller’s, but Condon has played in just two more seasons with his current team, the Montreal Canadiennes.
The Canadiens traded Condon to the Nashville Predators in March of this year, after he spent three seasons with Ottawa.
Cressels salary is expected a little higher than Miller’s.
Anton KhudobinAnton Khudotin is a player who has a lot to offer the Detroit Lions this season as well.
Khudins first season in Detroit was a little underwhelming, going 5-11-1, with a 3.09 goals against rate.
Khuddins career was a bit better, going 20-19-7, with three shutouts and a 2.57 goals against total.
The Lions will need to get a young goalie to fill the spot in goal for next season.
Alex StalockAlex Stalocks career is a little different than Khudinos.
Stalells career was more successful, going 28-16-4 with a 2:16 save percentage for the New Jersey Devils last season.
Stals numbers this season have been good, but not spectacular.
He hasn’t scored a goal in three games, and was on the ice for eight goals in six games in 2017-18.
Stalaocks salary is rumored to range from $4-6 million a season, so teams like Pittsburgh, Washington and the New Islanders will have some interest in signing the 26-, 28- and 30-year old goalie.
Ben BishopBen Bishop, who will be taking over for injured Matt Murray at the Toronto Maple Leafs this season will be entering his prime as a goaltender.
